Battleships are undeniably the most commonly used ship in the game. Heavy armor, powerful weapons, a high cruising speed, and a large cargo bay combine to make this ship a tough opponent to fight against.
One of the most Cost-to-benefit efficient ships in the game, Battleships can do the job of most other ships. Resource plundering, defense crushing, fleetcrashing – in sufficient numbers, Battleships can do them all.
It is also important to note that Battleships can withstand hits from Gauss Cannons, making them even more desirable when breaking through enemy defenses.
230 Battleships can destroy a Deathstar with a 100% success rate (in a 50% debris field universe, they can even make a profit). They’re perfectly suited to crash moonshot fleets composed of Small Cargos or Light Fighters.
While Battleships can do the job of most other ships, they do not perform well in special circumstances. If you are breaking through a defense with thousands of Rocket Launchers and Light Lasers, use Bombers and Destroyers. If facing a foe with some Plasma Turrets, Destroyers or a mass of Light Fighters are good options. If you are assaulting a mass of Light Fighters, then Cruisers are your best bet. Battlecruisers can destroy Battleships at a 2:1 ratio, making a Battleship-only fleet less effective than a fleet with a balanced mix of ships.
Therefore, while the Battleship is a great ship to have, it is not the best ship to use in extreme circumstances. Without the support of other ships, a pure Battleship fleet faces the danger of suffering significant losses in some situations.
