This ship is used in the colonization of undiscovered planets. Essential for any ambitious empire, they enable a new worlds to be developed. Upon landing, the ship is deconstructed to provide the initial metal and crystal required to start construction on the newly colonized planet.
The colony ship is a special vessel used to colonize new planets. You can also use them as fleetsaving tools; if recyclers or Deathstars aren’t giving you the time you need to fleetsave, the slow Colony Ship might be a viable option. An entire fleet can be sent on a Colonize mission if it contains a single Colony Ship. By sending the fleet on a colonize mission without the required level of Astro Technology research, the mission will travel to the desired location, but the mission will fail, causing the fleet to return to its point of origin.
In a pinch, Colony Ships can accompany your attack fleet (if, for example, you accidentally create too many of them). They have the same attack power as the Light Fighter but with 7.5 times the armor.
They have virtually no practical use other than colonizing new planets, so don’t build colony ships if you are not going to use them. Colonization requires 2 level increases in Astrophysics technology for each new colony to be created.
